CIMB Bank appoints Sulaiman Mohd Tahir as executive director

KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Bank Bhd announced the appointment of Sulaiman Mohd Tahir as its executive director effective yesterday.He succeeds Tunku Datuk Ahmad Burhanuddin, who left the Bank and the CIMB Group after 25 years of service to join Khazanah Nasional Berhad.

According to a CIMB statement, Sulaiman will continue to helm the Bank’s Consumer Sales and Distribution division, overseeing the operation and sales performance of the Bank’s 367 branch franchises, 22 Business Centres and 20 Mobile Sales Centres with a staff strength of about 8,500.

An accounting graduate from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia, Sulaiman began his career with the then Bank of Commerce (M) Berhad (now known as CIMB Bank) in 1987 and has held various positions in the Bank including group head of the Japanese Business Unit, branch manager Shah Alam, area business mana-ger managing Business Credit relationships for Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya before being appointed as the regional manager for Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan.

In 2002, he led the Credit Card Centre before assuming the role of head of Retail Sales and subsequently as head of the Consumer Sales and Distribution Division in January 2005.

In announcing the appointment, Datuk Seri Nazir Razak, group chief executive of CIMB Group said: “Sulaiman brings with him a wealth of experience from the various positions he has held in the bank. He has also demonstrated exemplary leadership qualities by transforming our Consumer Sales and Distribution division, a key factor in our overall consumer bank turnaround.”
