Hospital cleaner jailed for stealing colleague’s phone

SANDAKAN: The magistrates court yesterday sentenced a 26-year-old cleaner to six months’ jail for stealing his colleagues’s mobile phone.Irwan Abu Bakar, 26, from Taman Merpati, who works at the Duchess Kent Hospital here, pledged guilty to the charge under Section 403 of the Penal Code before magistrate Monica Linsua.

Prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Majari Awaljar told the court that at midnight last August 12, medical officer Ahmad Najmee Mohd Noor, 27, reported to the police that he had lost his Sony Ericsson C902I mobile phone which he placed on a trolley.

The accused was arrested by the police on August 14.

Majari told the court that the accused was on official duty from 8pm on August 12 till 7am the next day.

The accused changed the setting of the mobile phone, but upon knowing that the medical officer was searching for it and had lodged a police report, he gave it to another medical officer.

Irwan admitted that he had used the phone until August 14.
