Raising funds for typhoon victims

SIBU: Lions Club of Sibu Pahlawan and Sibu Businesswomen Association jointly organised a fundraising project for typhoon victims in the Philippines where more than 350,000 people lost their homes and over 300 died. Lions Club of Sibu Pahlawan president Councillor Dr Jimmy Tie contacted Manila Allied Lions Club president General Barias after the disaster to endorse their joint fundraising project to assist the latter’s Typhoon Relief Mission and Search Mission for victims. Tie invited Sibu Businesswomen Association to join in the fundraising project.

In three days, they raised RM5,000 which was transferred to Manila Allied Lions Club to pay for the tents, food rations and medicine supplies for typhoon victims.

Besides donating to Philippines Typhoon Relief Mission, Lions Club of Sibu Pahlawan also donated RM1,000 to Lions Club of Sibu Berjaya for a 14-year-old teenager to undergo reconstructive skull surgery in Australia.
