AirAsia to fly to Hong Kong trice daily

KUCHING: AirAsia Bhd (AirAsia), announced yesterday that it will increase its Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong flights to three times daily.AirAsia which is currently offering two daily direct flights to Hong Kong from Kuala Lumpur is adding another frequency to meet the emerging demands and encouraging load factors from the Association of South East Asia Nations (Asean) region and beyond. The third daily flight will commence on January 21, 2010.

AirAsia will also be introducing all-in-fares from as low as RM129 (HK$398) from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong, with bookings commencing today to December 7, 2009 for the travel period from January 21 to October 30, 2010.

Meanwhile, AirAsia’s first connection to Hong Kong was from the Kuala Lumpur hub.

Following its successful launch last year, AirAsia continued to boost its international connectivity to Hong Kong by launching more new destinations from its hubs which include Penang (four flights weekly) as well as Bangkok (two flights daily) and Phuket (one flight daily).

These bring AirAsia’s total number of weekly flights to and from Hong Kong to 46.

The overwhelming demand from travellers to and from Hong Kong has grown tremendously for the past two years.

AirAsia group Regional Commercial head Kathleen Tan in a press statement yesterday said, “The response has been extremely good for this route and we are running at an average of 75 per cent load factor on the Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong flights since its launch on May 15, 2008. The demand for the existing routes made it very clear for the need to introduce additional flights.

She added that Hong Kong has always been a popular destination due to its significance as a global economic powerhouse. Many Malaysians have started to venture into the region to look for business prospects.
