The 17-year-old from Sungai Kuap was travelling in the direction of Kota Sentosa around 11pm when a lorry from the opposite direction crashed into him after the driver attempted to turn into a junction near Taman Kali housing estate.

The impact sent the youth and his bike crashing into the rear of a Perodua Kelisa, whose driver had stopped by the roadside to patronise a burger stall.

The teen sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital where he was admitted.

Traffic police officers investigated the accident, while the lorry driver lodged a report later that night.

In an unrelated accident, a young woman driver escaped serious injuries after her Toyota Prado went out of control in her attempt to avoid hitting an elderly pedestrian yesterday.

The incident occurred at the Tun Salahuddin toll bridge around 11.15am when the woman, coming from the direction of Jalan Datuk Marican Salleh, swerved her 4WD to avoid the pedestrian crossing the road.

The vehicle spun out of control, narrowly missed the elderly man before crashing into the toll bridge’s protective railing.

The vehicle was suspended in the air — its rear end dangling from the edge of the bridge.

The driver managed to get out from it and was sent to a private medical centre for treatment and checkup.
