SIBU: Unhappy members of the public complain that lorries are taking up parking spaces at Teku Bazaar, which is about 20 minutes from Sibu town.According to a member of the public, the lorries had been parked at Teku Bazaar for several years but the authority concerned had not done anything about it.

No one knows who the lorries belong to.

“This is a public parking space. Lorries are not supposed to be there and it is an eyesore,” said a member of the public.

The complainants believe that the lorries had not been abandoned as they appeared to have been maintained from time to time.

They were disappointed with Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) for their not doing anything about it.

“The lorries can be seen at the main road — it is impossible for SMC not to notice it,” said a member of the public. In response to the complaint, SMC secretary Hii Chang Kee said the council would investigate.

Asked whether the council received any complaints about the lorries, Hii said so far, there were none.

“As long as the lorries do not commit any traffic offence, it is all right,” Hii said.

He told reporter over the phone: “Although there is no parking problem around Teku Bazaar, we will investigate as it involves public parking space. If it is a traffic offence, or the lorry parked is there for other purposes, we will take action.”
