ALOR SETAR: A mechanic is claiming that cash of RM2,500 kept in his pouch went missing when he was taken to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in an ambulance after meeting with an accident here on Nov 27.Relating the incident, Mohd Farid Nazmi Morad, 22, said he sustained a broken leg in the 11.30am accident and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance manned by three of the hospital’s staff.

“One of the staff asked for my pouch and I gave it before I felt an injection on my right leg and I passed out. When I regained consciousness an hour later, the pouch was said to have been handed over to my brother and father.

“Upon searching, RM2,500 kept in the pouch was missing, but another RM1,700 which I kept in my wallet was intact,” he told reporters at the MCA office here yesterday.

Mohd Farid  said he was riding his motorcycle home to Kampung Alor Pak Ngah when his machine was hit by a car.

Due to his injuries, Mohd Farid said he could not take any immediate action even though he suspected that one of the hospital staff in the ambulance had taken the money.

Nevertheless, he said he had lodged a report at the Kota Setar police headquarters at around noon yesterday to enable the police to conduct further investigations into the case.

“The report is also aimed to get the hospital to ensure that such an incident will not recur,” he said.

Meanwhile, the hospital’s director, Dr Juita Ghazalie, said the staff had been called in for clarification.

“Our staff, however, denied the allegations and said that the patient was conscious during the trip to the hospital.

“In fact, the distance between the location of the accident and the hospital is not that far and all of the patient’s personal belongings had been returned to his family members upon their arrival at the hospital,” she said. — Bernama
