Road tax renewal denied due to same chassis number

TAWAU: A 56-year-old businessman claimed that the Road Transport Depart-ment (RTD) had barred him from renewing the road tax as the chassis number of his wife’s car is similar to that of two other vehicles. The complainant, who only wanted to be known as Chow, lodged a complaint with the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Complaint Bureau here yesterday.

Chow said he had assisted his wife to renew her Isuzu Trooper’s road tax at the Tawau Municipal Council recently, but he was told                 that the account had been blocked and asked to renew it at RTD.

“When I went to RTD, the officer there told me the account has been blocked due to the similarity of chassis number with another two vehicles in Sabah.

“I am very curious because I could renew the road tax for the last 20 years and had changed the old registration card to a new one,” he said.

The officer also told him that the plate numbers for the respective vehicles are different but the chassis numbers are the same.

According to him, the RTD officer had come to his house to inspect the Isuzu Trooper but there was no response or follow-up from the department.

DAP Complaint Bureau chief James Leong strongly urged the RTD to investigate and solve the matter to enable the complainant to renew the road tax. James also advised the RTD to carry out their work properly and fairly for the convenience of vehicle owners.
