Federal Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew announced this, saying the clinics would be built in Sibu Jaya, Kemuyang and Sungai Bidut each, in addition to the two full-fledged clinics already in operation in Sibu at Jalan Oya and Jalan Lanang.

Lau said this during his visit to the 1Malaysia clinic in Teku area on the first day of 2010. He was accompanied by Minister of Health and Environment Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and chairman of SUPP Sg Teku sub-branch, Councillor So Teck Kee.

The setting up of the 1Malaysia clinic, he said was in line with 1Malaysia concept, where nobody would be deprived of medical treatment.

Medical service, he said, was one of six core fields outlined by the prime minister to be given priority. Malaysia was among developing countries providing extensive healthcare to its people.

“It was something we should be proud of,” he added.

Meanwhile So said the 1Malaysia clinic would only charge a nominal registration fee of RM1 with the medical service and medicine to be provided free to the people.

The realisation of the 1Malaysia clinic in Teku, according to him, would upgrade the medical service in the vicinity with more than 10,000 families.

He said the setting up of the 1 Malaysia clinic in Teku was due to the efforts of SUPP Sungai Teku sub-branch with push from leaders of the Sibu Wawasan Team, as in Wong and Lau.

SUPP Sungai Teku sub-branch will continue to work with Sibu Wawasan Team to set up a more comprehensive polyclinic in Teku area under the 10th Malaysia Plan.
