The flood subsided about two hours later.

When interviewed, a few folk in the city claimed that the flash flood was predictable as it usually occurred during the king tide from Jan 1 to 5 with the water rising up to 6.1 to 6.6 metres.

Those staying in low-lying areas are advised to be prepared as according to the people, the weather in Sri Aman can be ‘unpredictable’.

The Meteorological Service Department meanwhile predicted intermittent heavy rains in Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei and Sibu Divisions for the next two days.

Floods are a possibility when continuous heavy rains coincide with the king tide.
