During an interview at the team’s first training session for 2010 at the temporary track at Sarawak Stadium on Sunday, Ahmad Abdul Kadir, 19, one of the riders who won the Sarawak Cub Prix last year, described their preparations as on track.

“Things are getting into place after today’s (Sunday) training, and perhaps a few more sessions will increase the momentum after months of resting.”

Ahmad said he was expecting tough challenges from teams in Miri, not forgetting the Kuching riders.

“Miri riders are catching up fast and I believe there will be a tough battle for the Miri round.”

Ahmad had a successful season in the Malaysian Cub Prix series last year with eight podium finishes in 10 races.

Meanwhile, another Faito Boon Kui rider Abdul Hafiz Rashid, 17, who won the junior category last year, said he was ever ready to retain the title.

“I’m in top shape and prepared even though the race will only be held in March.”

However, he said, his machine needed a proper tune-up for more power, which would be done next month.  Several components would also be upgraded very soon, he added.

Apart from the national series, both Hafiz and Ahmad also represented Malaysian Yamaha last month in the Asian Yamaha Cub Prix at Sentul Circuit, Jakarta, Indonesia. Teammates Aswandy Ramli and Eddie Brian were also present during Sunday’s practice.
