KUANTAN: A man and his daughter were killed when their car collided with an unladen three-tonne lorry at Km25 Jalan Kuantan-Kemaman yesterday.
The car driver Sahat Mohd Isa from Taman Bahagia Baru, Batu Pahat and his disabled daughter, Faridah Sahat, 31, died on the spot while Sahat’s wife, Habsah Bujang, 61, who was sitting in the rear passenger seat, sustained critical injuries.
Also seriously injured was the lorry attendant, Abdul Ghani Awang Hamat, 62, while another attendant, Mohd Hafizi Fauzi, 19, and its 34-year-old driver escaped with only light injuries.
Kuantan police chief ACP Mohd Jasmani Yusoff said the family was on their way from Kuantan to Kemaman in the 4.50pm incident.
“Initial investigations found that the lorry from Kemaman heading to Kuantan had entered into the opposite lane before it collided with the Proton Iswara Aeroback driven by Sahat,” he said yesterday.
He said a team from the police, Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Department were rushed to the scene before the victims were sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan. — Bernama
