CP advises Sabahans to remain calm

KOTA KINABALU: Sabahans must remain calm despite the escalating tension following attacks on churches in several states in Malaysia.Sabah Police Com­mis­sioner Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim when giving the advice said the people should not be “too emotional” over the matter and leave it to the leaders to handle.

“We hope the people in Sabah will maintain the calmness. Let the leaders settle the problem, don’t be emotional,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He said to date, there have been no reports of such attacks on churches in Sabah.

“But we are not taking any chances, we have beefed up security at all houses of worship, our Police Mobile Patrol Vehicles (MPVs) are doing their rounds all the time,” he said.

On situation in Sabah, Noor Rashid said everything was still under control and that there had been no reports of such attacks on churches here.

“So far I have not received any reports of attacks on the churches in Sabah. So as for our assessment on the situation here, we are still peaceful. We will continue to monitor from time to time,” he said.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hus­sein had recently confirmed that the attacks on churches had escalated to Sarawak.

Hishammuddin also advised public not to be influenced by reports on the Internet or text messages pertaining to the situation in the country.

“The situation is under control and the people should not be worried,” he said.
