KOTA BAHARU: The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), hope to produce 50 metric tonnes of Tualang honey compared with 45 tones last year, said FAMA director-General Datuk Mohamed Shariff Abdul Aziz.He said last year, 45 tonnes of Tualang honey was produced, worth about RM2.475 million, mainly from the Kuala Nering area in Kedah where a factory to process honey was built.

“This year we have targeted RM2.9 million in revenue or produce 50,000 kilograms of honey, priced at RM58 a kilogramme,” he told reporters at the 2nd International Conference on the Medicinal Use of Honey here yesterday.

He added that about 400 people involved in the industry can earn about RM2,000 a month or more.

Mohamed Shariff said since Tualang honey has very high nutritional and medicinal values, it was much sought after and urged the public to buy high quality pure honey produced by Agromas Fama which is sold at a very reasonable price compared with imported honey. — Bernama
