Woman charged with selling non-certified DVDs out on bail

MIRI: A woman shop assistant claimed trial yesterday to a charge of selling 263 pieces of DVDs without display of authentication certificates approved by the authorities.Daisy Rambor, 21, of Sibuti pleaded not guilty to committing the offence as charged under Section 18 (4) (a) Film Censorship Act 2002 (Act 620) which is punishable under Section 18 (5) of the same act.

The offence carries a fine up between RM 5,000 and RM 30,000, or imprisonment up to three years or both if convicted.

According to the brief facts of the case, the accused was selling 263 copies of DVDs without display of Authentication B Certificates in a manner approved by the Film Censorship Board.

The accused was charged with committing the offence at 12.20pm on Sept 29 last year in a shop at e-Mart Commercial Centre.

Magistrate Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani set Jan 19 this year for further mention of the case after the accused pleaded not guilty.

She was released on cash bail of RM2,000 with one local surety.

Inspector Mohd Khairi Mohd Nor prosecuted.
