BUTTERWORTH: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is currently preparing a system called “e-transfer” which will allow used car dealers and the public to check information during the sales and purchase of a car.Its corporate director Zairi Mohd Ali said JPJ was currently training its staff to familiarise themselves with the new system to be implemented in the near future.

“Actually the system has been around for a while but has never been utilised. Right now, the RTD is waiting for approval of several policies and financial allocation,” he told reporters after a dialogue with used car dealers and rental car operators here yesterday.

He said that when the system was fully implemented, it would allow the public and used car dealers to check information such as the original owners of a car and other important details.

“Previously, there were problems when the original owner died, declared bankrupt or was blacklisted when the transfer of ownership has yet to be carried out, thus causing problem during the sales and purchase process,” he said.

On the dialogue yesterday, he said among issues raised were RTD transaction process and computerised car inspection at Puspakom. — Bernama
