ENGKILILI: About 500 villagers in five longhouses here will soon enjoy 24-hour electricity supply with the implementation of the Rural Electrification Supply (RES) project in their area.Engkilili BN-friendly independent assemblyman Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa said the RM3-million project would benefit villagers from Rh Atet, Titok Ulu; Rh Gawan, Nibong; Rh Manja, Bunu Beging; Rh Lampas, Titok Ulu; and Rh Manggat, Titok Ulu.

According to him, Shorefield Sdn Bhd, which will undertake the project, will take about a year to complete the project.

“I was made to understand that the contractor (Shoredfield) will take about a year to complete the project which is expected to cover all the five longhouses,” Dr Rayong said during a dialogue with Shorefield, Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation (Sesco), Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (Salcra) and representatives from the five longhouses at Rumah Atet, Titok Ulu, here yesterday.

Dr Rayong hoped that landowners affected by the project would give their full co-operation to the contractor by not asking for compensation for affected land and crops.

Meanwhile, Tuai Rumah Manggat, who represented the five longhouses, assured that the project would not be interrupted, adding that the villagers were looking forward to the amenity.
