TAWAU: A community library, the first of its kind in Sabah, will be opened in Tawau this year, said Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun.The library, to be located in Bandar Sri Indah, about 16km from here, will allow the local people as well as those from nearby villages access to information.

“In Sabah, new townships are being established. We feel that it is appropriate for these areas to have community libraries so that the people, old and young, can come and borrow books, read books and use the facilities provided.

“They will no longer have to go to the city or town to get library facilities as the community library is equipped with all the necessary facilities,” she said here yesterday.

Apart from reading materials, the library is also equipped with computers and Internet service. — Bernama
