Aswara student charged over Facebook comment

PETALING JAYA: An Arts Culture and Heritage Academy (Aswara) student was charged in the Sessions Court here yesterday with posting threatening words on Facebook five days ago.

Mohamad Tasyrif Tajudin, 25, is alleged to have left the comment “ke nak aku baling bom petrol di sana plak?…..harga boleh runding…” (or you want me to throw petrol bomb there? price is negotiable) on the social networking site.

Mohamad Tasyrif, who was unrepresented, nodded that he understood when the charge was read but no plea was recorded.

The proceeding yesterday was held before Magistrate Ho Kong Chin because Judge Aslam Zainuddin, who was supposed to hear the case, was attending to an official business in Shah Alam.

Ho then fix next Monday for the mention and for setting the bail.

Mohamad Tasyrif, a first year film-making student, is currently detained while waiting for the mention.

Mohamad Tasyrif is charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 with knowingly using the application with the intention of threatening others.

He was alleged to have posted the comment from a house in B10-17-20, Blok 10, Jalan PJS 2B/1, Desa Mentari 2, Petaling Jaya at 10am on Jan 10.

He is facing a fine of up to RM50,000 or up to a year in jail or both if convicted.

Prosecution is by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar who offered a bail of RM10,000 with one surety. — Bernama
