Chong Wei sets up clash with Gade in Korea Open final

KUALA LUMPUR: World number one and national number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei strolled into the Korean Open Super Series men’s singles final without losing much sweat or time after sweeping aside Chen Jin of China 21-11, 21-13 in Seoul, South Korea yesterday.

In the final today, Chong Wei will face Danish Master Peter Gade Christensen who overcame another Chinese player, Chen Long 21-13, 10-21, 21-17 in the other semi-final.

With his nemesis Lin Dan absent from the championships, Chong Wei’s straight sets victory in 37 minutes paved the way for the Malaysian to take a major step towards earning a slice of the RM1.02 million (US$300,000) total prize money offered.

Meanwhile, Chen Long dragged Gade, 33, into a deciding set before bowing to the experience of the Danish star in 62 minutes.

But though the energy sapping semi-final may takes its toll on the ageing Gade, matches involving Chong Wei and the Danish ace had always been exciting. — Bernama
