Lyn Yuen, Arcnaah and Alyssa march into semi-finals

KUCHING: Malaysians Choo Lyn Yuen, Arcnaah Rajan and Alyssa Boey marched into the semi-finals of the girls singles at the second leg of the ITF 14 and Under Asian Championships (Grade 2) at SLTA Centre here yesterday.Top seed Lyn Yuen had no problem in seeing off Vietnam’s Dao Minh Trang 6-0, 6-2 in the quarter-finals while Alyssa beat Singaporean Hannah Chew 6-3, 6-2.

Arcnaah was tested by another Singaporean, Rheeya Doshi, before winning 6-3, 6-4.

However, compatriot Ti Jia Wei was shown the exit after she lost 3-6, 2-6 to another of the Singaporeans in the fray, Joy Chia.

Lyn Yuen next faces Arcnaah in the semi-finals today while the other semi-final will see Alyssa taking on Joy.

In the boys singles quarter-finals, the only Malaysian left, Colin Wong, booked his place in the last four after he beat Singapore’s Rohan Kamdar 6-3, 6-0.

Top seed Sharmal Dissanayake of Sri Lanka sailed into the semi-finals when he beat Vietnam’s Tran Minh Thong 6-2, 6-1 while Anandone Khamphoumy defeated Yemeni Hasan Hussein 6-2, 6-4.

In the other quarter-final between Seif Adas of Jordan and Alexander Fairbanks of Sri Lanka, Adas lost the first set 3-6 but bounced back to take the next two 7-6, 7-5 to earn his place.

Meanwhile, the boys doubles of the first leg of the championships that was played on Saturday night, was won by the combined pair of Colin and Rohan while Malaysia took the girls doubles title.

Colin-Rohan, who beat Fairbanks and Swe Kyaw Htin (Myanmar) 6-2, 6-2 in the semi-finals, overcame top seeds Dissanayake and compatriot Nishangan Nadaraja 6-2, 6-2 in the final.

In an all-Malaysian final of the girls doubles, second seeds Jia Wei and Alyssa got the better of top seeds Lyn Yuen-Arcnaah by posting a 1-4, 4-1 (10-4) win based on the shorts sets system.

Prior to the final, Jia Wei and Alyssa beat Shaema Al-Olfi of Yemen and Maliha Al-Awidi of Oman 6-0, 6-3 while Lyn Yuen-Arcnaah defeated Joy-Rheeya 6-1, 6-2 in the semi-finals.
