It’s now in a pretty sorry state without proper maintenance from the Sarawak State Sports Council.

Built in 1994, the facility comprises an air-conditioned indoor shooting range, two outdoor shooting ranges, a store room and a toilet.

On a visit to the shooting range at Jalan Field Force, Batu Kawa on Wednesday, the roof of the indoor shooting range, which collapsed in July 2008, had not been repaired and the whole place was overgrown with grass.

Sarawak State Sports Council director Francis Nyurang Ding, said he was aware of the present condition of the shooting range.

“As this is a government building, we have notified the Public Works Department (JKR) more than one year ago to repair and renovate it. However, the department came up with a tender to rebuild the whole facility which was very expensive.”

“I have told JKR to re-submit a new tender and I’m leaving it to the department to speed things up,” he added.

The shadow team are now having to practise at whatever space that is available at the shooting range and sometimes, they have use the police shooting range.
