Acceptable mechanisms to manage disputes

KUALA LUMPUR: The location of places of worship and issues arising from inter-marriages are specific sensitive concerns that require further attention on the 1Malaysia road, according to the Goverment Transformation Programme (GTP) Roadmap. The GTP launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday said continued efforts were needed to expand the “zone of inclusiveness”, such that acceptable mechanisms are in place to manage disputes.

Efforts must be made to promote better understanding and to widen the zone of inclusiveness by having consulative panels on social harmony and national unity at federal and state levels to promote inter-ethnic and interfaith understanding.

The participation of Malaysians of all faiths in community charity and welfare efforts should also be encouraged.

“Instead of focusing only on potential differences and disputes, we should harness the multi-religious and multi-cultural society in Malaysia to our advantage,” it said.

This can be done through exploring economic potential in new growth areas of Islamic financing, halal food and herbal health products and promoting religious tourism. — Bernama
