CYBERJAYA: The response of schoolchildren to the “Letter to the Prime Minister” competition has been overwhelming, Pos Malaysia Berhad chairman Tan Sri Dr Aseh Che Mat said yesterday. However, the participation from students in rural areas was not so encouraging.

“The passion for letter-writing has probably died down. Only nine per cent of the 100 million letters received annually are letters sent with stamps.

“The rest were ‘white letters’ like water bills, electricity bills and assessment notices,” he told reporters after receiving 600 letters from students of Sekolah Seri Puteri participating in the competition here.

The competition, launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Dec 29, is open to students aged seven to 17 to voice out their opinions on the 1Malaysia concept. — Bernama
