SIBU: Entries are invited for the 11th edition of the Jubilee Park Sarawak Half Marathon 2010 on May 2 at Sibu Jubilee Park at 6am.The annual event is organised jointly by Sibu Marathon Sports Club (SMSC) and Sibu Municipal Council.

SMSC chairman Tang Kah Seng said the run was open to all Malaysians and foreigners who had working permit in Sarawak.

For this year’s edition, Tang said they had specially tailored a prize scheme to attract more Sarawakians to enter for the 21km men’s open, men’s veteran and ladies open categories.

Within the three categories, he said the top five finishers from Sarawak would also receive cash prizes ranging from RM200 to RM500.

“This is on top of the prizes that they win in their events in the respective categories,” he said.

Tang said this was aimed at encouraging more Sarawakians to take part.

In the past, he said there were frequent complaints from the local runners that those from the peninsula were far too superior, thus depriving the locals of chances.

“With this new package, we hope it will be an additional carrot to attract and encourage more Sarawakians to participate,” he added.

Apart from the three categories, the others include the 7km boys and girls junior, ladies veteran, men’s and ladies fun run.

Tang also reminded the participants to bring their entry forms to SMSC at Chai Lai Cafe for registration and also to collect their participation numbers any time between Feb 1 and Feb 28.

“Only the first 400 early-birds will get a singlet free of charge,” he added.

For outstation runners, they may collect the singlets from the respective SMSC offices.

Runners in Kuching may contact Ngui Kiong on 012-8881261, Wong Siew Ming in Miri (019-8354321) or Loh Leong Hua in Kapit (013-8130796).
