The accident occurred around 1.30pm, when the 18-year-old boy was on his way back to his house in Batu Kawah together with his 22- and 16-year-old brothers after the elder two had fetched the youngest sibling from school.

According to the 16-year-old, his eldest brother, who was the driver of the Ford Ranger, lost control of the vehicle after a Proton car travelling beside them along the underpass suddenly swerved into their lane.

The pick-up truck struck the central divider and crossed over into the opposite lane where it then collided into a Toyota Vios before overturning onto its side.

The woman driver of the Vios and her child, together with the 16- and 22-year-old brothers, suffered minor injuries in the incident.

However, the 18-year-old boy was trapped in his seat and needed the assistance of firefighters to extricate him.

He was badly cut on his lower left leg and was sent to the Sarawak General Hospital for treatment.

In an unrelated accident, two persons were hospitalised while three others were relatively unscathed when the Toyota Hilux they were travelling in struck a tree late Monday night.

The incident happened around 11.30pm along Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub, near the State Mosque in Petra Jaya, when the 20-year-old woman driver lost control of the Hilux while trying to avoid colliding with a motorcycle.

The vehicle then slammed into a tree along the central road divider resulting in a suspected broken leg for the driver and head injuries for a 17-year-old male passenger.

Firefighters were also called to the scene to help extricate one passenger who was partially pinned to his seat.

Both victims were admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment while three other male passengers received outpatient treatment.
