Businessman denies cheating businesswoman of RM80,000

KOTA KINABALU: A businessman was charged in the magistrates’ court here yesterday with cheating a businesswoman.Ngu Lu Kheng, 45, from Kinarut, pleaded not guilty before magistrate Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim to cheating Liew Lin Ying, 52, of RM80,000 at Lot 12 Taman Asli, Lorong Teratai 2, Penampang on Jan 15, 2007.

The accused, who was defended by counsel Ram Singh, was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of between one and 10 years and whipping and also possible fine.

Noor Hafizah set April 7 for the re-mention of Ngu’s case.

She then released Ngu on RM4,000 bail with RM2,500 deposited under one local surety.

Prosecuting officer chief inspector Lim Swee Beng told the court that the prosecution would call five witnesses.
