The company was responding to a report released Wednesday that said Tsingtao had racked up more than 20 environmental violations between 2004 and 2009 at its mainland Chinese operations.

The report was authored by the Civic Exchange, a Hong Kong think-tank, and the Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE), a Beijing-based non-governmental organisation.

“Tsingtao Brewery strives to be a responsible company, and environmental protection is a primary concern for the company,” it said in a statement.  “The data presented on the (IPE’s) website is outdated. Tsingtao Brewery has invested greatly to improve the environment footprint of brewers it has acquired, ensuring they meet environmental standards.” — AFP
