Ronnie Liu’s special officer acquitted

SHAH ALAM: Wong Chuan How, special officer to Selangor state executive councillor Ronnie Liu, was acquitted and discharged by the Sessions Court here yesterday of a charge of submitting an allocation form and invoice with false particulars.Judge Azhaniz Teh Azman Teh, in acquitting him without calling for his defence, held that the prosecution had failed to make out a prima facie case against him.

Wong, 51, was charged with submitting an allocation form for the Sungai Pelek state constituency and an invoice containing false particulars for the supply of 2,5000 car flags worth RM2,500 when no flags were supplied.

He was alleged to have submitted the form to Sepang district office financial administrative assistant K.Mohana Sunthari at the Community Develop-ment Division of the Sepang district on Sept 10, 2008.

The charge under the Anti-Corruption Act 1997 carries a jail term of 14 days to 20 years and a fine five times the amount of graft involved or RM10,000, whichever is higher, on conviction.

Seven witnesses were called.

Wong, represented by counsel Imran Hadzalie Abdul Hamid, however, faces two other charges of criminal breach of trust involving cheques for  RM5,000  and  RM2,500 in another court.

Deputy public prosecutor from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Mohd Josiendra Abu Senin said the prosecution would appeal. — Bernama
