Developing young entrepreneurs from an early age

SANDAKAN: The Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco) is focusing on developing entrepreneurs from an early age through the formation of Entrepreneurs Clubs in secondary schools in the state.Its chairman Datuk Arifin Arif said at present, 45 young entrepreneurs clubs had been established in a number of secondary schools and of this                  number, 42 had kiosks of their own.

He said Sedco was playing a role in assisting in the establishment of kiosks in the schools concerned, apart from providing advise as well as guidance in activities.

“The establishment of the entrepreneur clubs at the schools level is the best platform for Sedco to produce entrepreneurs from yet an young age,” he told reporters after officiating at the Entrepreneurs Club Kisok at the SMK Sandakan here yesterday.

He said Sedco was now planning to establish Young Entrepreneurs Clubs in secondary religious, as at present, it only existed in normal secondary schools.

According to Arifin, for a start Sedco plans to establish clubs in five secondary religious schools in the state.

He also stated there had been a positive impact on students joining the young entrepreneurs clubs in those schools where it had been established.

He also disclosed that school authorities, especially teachers, had extended good cooperation in implementing the activities of the clubs including the sale of writing materials and food stuff through the kiosks established. — Bernama
