KUCHING: A 16-year-old boy was charged in a magistrates’ court yesterday for raping a 15-year-old girl.The accused from Simunjan was charged under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping.
He allegedly committed the offence last March 27 in a hut at a recreational park near a government building in Petra Jaya.
The girl, said to be from Petra Jaya, was reportedly on a date with the accused when the offence occurred.
The accused was arrested on March 30.
No plea was taken and the court fixed May 15 for further mention of the case. In unrelated case, a 27-year-old man from Sibu was fined RM3,000 in default three months’ imprisonment for possessing dangerous drugs.
Chiew Wei Liang was found with 1.03 grams of Ketamine at a Mile 3 commercial centre car park in March 2008. He settled the fine. Magistrate Portia Tham Ong Leng presided while Chief Inspector Jawai Francis prosecuted.
Meanwhile, in another unrelated case, a man from Stutong Jaya was fined RM1,000 in default one month in prison for voluntary causing hurt on a woman.
The 24-year-old was charged with hurting the victim, together with another offender still at large, at about 2am in a food outlet at BDC last Dec 18.
He was convicted under Section 323 of the Penal Code and paid the fine.
