Three drunken drivers fined

KOTA KINABALU: Three local men were fined for driving their vehicles under the influence of alcohol.Peter Kapok, 31, was fined RM1,000; Chester Wong, 19, RM1,100 and Gerald George, 24, RM1,200.

Senior Assistant Registrar Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof, who sat as a magistrate, ordered each of them to be jailed for one month if they failed to pay their fines.

The trio were separately charged under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which provides for a fine of between RM1,000 and RM6,000 or a jail term of up to 12 months or both.

Peter was arrested at a traffic light in Inanam while Chester and Gerald were apprehended at Jalan Penampang near SMK Bahang and Jalan Bundusan respectively between July 2, 2005 and last March 6.

The blood sample from Peter contained 126 mg of alcohol, exceeding the permitted level of 80mg in every 100ml of blood.

Chester and Gerald’s urine samples contained 202 mg and 221mg of alcohol respectively.

Prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Wilynton Enchana Watt told the court that the safety limit set under the law was 107mg in every 100ml of urine.
