KOTA KINABALU: A soldier was jailed two years by the magistrates’ court yesterday for robbing a housewife of her belongings worth RM1,515 last month.Ahmad Fauzi Othman, 29, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dana Arabi Wazani to robbing Akma Hamjani of a handbag containing RM215, a Nokia cellphone, a gold ring and personal documents in front of a lift on the third floor of Centre Point Shopping Complex here about 5.30pm last March 29.
Ahmad Fauzi was charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 14 years and a fine or whipping.
The facts of the case stated that Akma lodged a police report at 7.52pm on March 29, stating that the accused had snatched her handbag while she was with her two daughters.
About 6pm on March 30, Akma’s husband Abdul Rahman Ghazali managed to arrest the accused as he attempted to pawn a gold ring, which was one of the stolen items during the robbery, at a gold shop in Sinsuran 4 here.
Abdul Rahman then handed over the accused to the police on the same day which led to the discovery of a Nokia hand phone from him.
In a separate case, Salihuddin Otoh, 25, was jailed 20 months after he pleaded guilty to possessing a stolen Honda EX5 motorbike belonging to Brindon Anthony, 28.
Prosecuting officer chief Inspector Lim Swee Beng told the court that Salihuddin committed the offence at 9pm on April 5, this year at night market in Inanam.
Salihuddin was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between six months and five years and a fine, upon conviction.
