1,500 benefit from health, community service camp

KOTA BELUD: Some 1,500 people in six villages benefitted from a two-day health and community service camp organised for the first time at Kampung Lingkubang near here over the weekend.An initiative by Shell Malaysia’s Barton operations staff, the programme was a collaboration with the Kota Belud Hospital, Kota Belud Thalassaemia Society, Kota Belud Hotel, Rela, Red Crescent and the villagers.

The two-day programme included a general health screening and dental services, health talks, blood donation drive, first aid course and a gotong-royong by some 60 volunteers from Shell and the participating organisations.

Shell Malaysia’s Sabah operations manager Yusop Sahari said the project represented Shell’s continuous contribution to enhance the quality of life for the community where it operates through Shell’s ‘We Care We Share’ community outreach programme.

“This partnership programme enables us to work closely with our key stakeholders in the areas of health, safety and environment care for the benefit of the community here,” he said.

At the closing ceremony, Yusop presented Shell’s contribution of a set of blood pressure monitor to the hospital for use during its blood donation campaigns.

Also present were Assistant Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Herbert Lagadan who is also assemblyman for Kadamaian, Science and Technology Adviser to the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak and Kota Belud Hospital director Dr Alice Chin Oi Chu.
