The launch of Academia Lane last month by Spago caused quite a pandemonium in an otherwise quiet month for the property market in Kuching. Majority of the buyers were very swift in making decisions to purchase after they were acquainted with its green concept and understood the value that it holds.

Dubbed as the first Sustainable Development in the Sarawak, Academia Lane has incorporated various environmentally friendly features into the project. Numerous factors were taken into consideration. The heat in Kuching is one of the main culprits of carbon emission and a lot of energy is used to cool the temperature down.

To offset that, the roof has been designed to allow natural ventilation to circulate the hot air out. Plenty of trees will also be lined along the buildings to provide cool reprieve from the scorching sun.

Ironically, the sun that was a foe can also be a friend where solar panels are used to generate power for selected common areas and solar water heater system will be an option for discerning buyers. Rain water will be harvested for landscape purposes and even the toilets are cleverly designed to conserve water.

Environment friendly products and materials will be used in the project ranging from high quality form works to low VOC paint, from energy saving devices to water saving taps. Other lifestyle choices will also be incorporated including a community based car pooling and recycling habits.

Spago is working with an environment consultant from Australia, and many other great ideas have been integrated into this development and are all detailed in its updated website. For further info, members of the public can visit www.spago-green.com.my.
