High Court orders man alleged to have murdered brother to be tried in Sri Aman

KUCHING: The High Court yesterday ordered the case of a man who was charged with causing the death of his brother to be heard in Sri Aman.Judge Rhodzariah Bujang has reserved Aug 2 to 6 for the trial.

The accused, 22-year-old Mohd Safuan Bulian, allegedly caused the death of his 31-year-old brother Iswandi Bulian about 9pm on May 31 last year at a jetty in Kampung Hulu Laut near Saratok.

They were said to be drinking together when Safuan lost his temper.

He allegedly stabbed his brother on the abdomen with a pair of scissors until the brother died.

Murder comes under Section 302 of the Penal Code which provides for the death penalty.

Mohd Safuan pleaded not guilty after the charge against him was read.

DPP Izwa Tonie prosecuted.

In an unrelated case, the magistrates’ court allowed the reduction of cash bail imposed on two persons charged with gang robbery.

The magistrate allowed both the accused to be released on bails which were reduced from RM5,000 to RM1,000 with a condition that one of the sureties must be their parents.

Nazri Salimi, 19, from Jalan Astana and a 17-year-old youth from Kampung Muara Tabuan with two friends still at large were alleged to have robbed  two men of their handphones at Sarawak Museum.

The two and their friend allegedly committed the robbery about 3.35pm on March 19.

They were charged with committing the offence under Section 395 of the Penal Code.

The magistrate ordered the accused to be produced in court on July 14 for further hearing.
