ATM A’s Zaki in golden showing at S’wak Archery

KUCHING: Mohd Zaki of ATM A was in superb form when he shot down two gold medals at the 12th Sarawak Outdoor Archery Championships and the 2nd National Circuit at State Stadium in Petra Jaya yesterday.

He scored 348 points to win the 50m and 345 points to win the 30m men’s individual compound bow in the qualification round.

On Tuesday, Zaki finished second in the 70m and was fourth in the 90m in the same event.

However, he could only finish second with a total of 1,361 points to enter the Olympic round today.

Finishing top in the qualification round was Kelvin Hoo of Persatuan Pemulihan Orang Cacat who collected a total of 1,364 points from the four categories competed.

Kelvin won the gold in the 90m and 70m on Tuesday but finished fourth in the 50m with 341 points and sixth in the 30m with 351 points.

In third place out of 37 contestants with 1,356 points was Daniel Tan of Red Arrows WP.

Tengku Wira topped the men’s individual recurve bow after he accumulated a total of 1,229 points by finishing fourth in the 90m and 30m, first in the 50m and 14th in the 70m.

Five points behind him in second place was Zulkifli Mat Zin of MSN A while coming in third was Julius of ATM A with 1,223 points.

The best placed Sarawakian was Sukma shadow team member Joely-Ray Chan of Sarawak A who finished in 15th place with 1,135 points.

In the women’s individual compound bow, UiTM’s Fatin Nurfatehan Mat continued with her good performance by bagging another gold and silver yesterday.

The gold was won in the 30m where she collected 354 points and the silver came from the 50m where she collected 344 points.

Nurfatehan took the 70m gold on Tuesday when she scored 338 points and the 50m gold with 355 points.

She amassed a total of 1,391 points to be ranked as the top seed in the Olympic round.

In second place with 1,377 points was Shamira Mohd Latifi of Red Arrows MP B who also put up a consistent show to pick up a silver and a bronze yesterday.

The silver was won in the 30m while the bronze came from the 50m.

Third was Nor Rizah Ishak of ATM A with a total of 1,364 points.

Sarawak Archery Association Miri Branch’s Beatric Wong gave the hosts something to cheer about when she finished third in the women’s individual recurve bow.

She collected a total of 1,110 points from a third place finish in the 70m, fifth place in 60m and 50m, and 12th place in the 30m.

The top finisher was Nur Atiqah Azizi of Majlis Sukan Negeri Melaka who accumulated 1,150 points from the four events.

Atiqah was the gold medallist in the 30m and silver medallist in the 50m. She also finished second in the 70m and was fourth in the 60m.

Finishing seven points behind Atiqah in second place was Ezryn Meza M Hamzah of Red Arrows MP who took the gold in the 70m and 50m, silver in the 30m and was sixth in the 60m.

The Olympic rounds for the men’s and women’s compound bow and recurve bow will be competed today with four golds on offer while the team events which have four golds to offer will be held tomorrow.

One hundred and forty-one archers from 15 teams are taking part in the five-day event organised by Sarawak Archery Association.
