SIBU: The youth survey kicked off with a good start as some 7,000 forms have been completed as of yesterday. This was revealed by Assistant Minister for Social Development and Urbanisation (Youth Affairs and Training) Larry Sng.

Their target is 10,000.

“We are almost there but even if we don’t reach our target we have a sizeable number of respondents,” Sng told reporters after a cheque handing over ceremony at Ta Ann Building, Rawang Road here.

He said their staff had gone down to both rural and urban towns to conduct the survey on youths.

The data collected will be analysed according to towns and other related categories.

Sng said it (data) will be analysed in detail and a relevant approach would be taken to address each grouping.

“The interests and trend of youths differed according to locations,” he said.

He expected the analysis to be completed by June and they are working closely with UCSI, Kuching.

“This will give us a better understanding of the social behaviour of the youths. That is, what their interests are in the areas of sports, Internet surfing and so forth,” he explained.

Sng said, among others, they were using focus group to collect data.
