Amy Search ordered to pay scalded boy RM18,000 in damages

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court here yesterday ordered singer Amy Search to pay RM18,000 in damages to a boy who was scalded by spilt hot tomyam soup at his restaurant.Judge Sabariah Othman said that as an employer Amy was responsible for the negligence of his workers.

She awarded RM8,000 general damages for body injuries to Nik Muhammad Zakwan, 4, RM10,000 special damages and interest at six per cent per annum.

Nik Muhammad Zakwan’s father, Nik Zahir Nik Mohd Idris, filed the suit on his behalf on Sept 24, 2008, claiming that a worker at Amy’s restaurant, Restoran Cheng Ho, in Wangsa Maju, negligently spilt hot tom yam soup on his son’s back on June 12, 2008, scalding him.

He named Amy, 51, whose real name is Suhaimi Abdul Rahman, as defendant.

Amy was represented by counsel Ahmad Zaharil Muhaiyar and Nik Zahir by counsel Adnan Seman. — Bernama
