PUTRAJAYA: The Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry has proposed that financial institutions provide instalment payment plans for energy-saving goods such as solar panels.Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui  said  yesterday such facility would encourage the use of energy-saving products in homes.

He said the Finance Ministry could give incentives to financial institutions to come up with such facility so that the public could afford to enjoy these appliances.

“It’s just like buying a car, whereby we pay a downpayment and then pay the rest in instalments.

“More people will be able to save electricity if they can buy solar panels through monthly instalments,” he told reporters after launching the ministry-level Green Practice here.

Chin said the move was a necessary in efforts to save energy and conserve the environment.

Meanwhile, he said the launch of the Green Practice was an effort by the ministry, as a pioneer in the public sector, towards environ-mental conservation.

He said it would include daily activities at the workplace such as saving electricity and water, practising the 3R (Reduce-Reuse-Recycle), using environment-friendly products, practices in the cafeteria and using public transportation.  — Bernama
