220 hours community work for stealing laptop

TAWAU: A 20-year-old man was sentenced to 220 hours of community work by the magistrates’ court here yesterday for stealing a laptop worth RM2,399.Magistarte Edward Paul ordered the sentence to be done in aggregate yesterday after the accused, Sabrani Jeffri, pleaded guilty to charges under Section 380 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment up to ten years and could also be fined if found guilty.

Prosecution officer Chief Inspector Joan Lee told the court that the accused was detained by police on April 21 at about 1.35am at the lobby of Walaitokou Hotel as he was a suspect in the case.

During interrogation, the accused admitted to stealing the laptop belonging to Fung Thien Yin at the Walaitokou Café Beer Garden, Jalan Masjid on April 19 at about 3am.
