KUALA LUMPUR: The cabinet, which met yesterday, expressed its sadness and condolence to the family of Aminulrasyid Amzah, 15, who was killed when police fired at a car they were pursuing in Shah Alam on April 26.“The incident was most regretted,” said a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya.
Following the incident, the cabinet wanted investigation into the case to be carried out in a fair and transparent manner and as soon as possible so that everyone, especially the boy’s family and the policemen involved, would get justice, the statement said.
“The cabinet wants the panel (the investigation panel set up by the Home Ministry) and the police to carry out a comprehensive investigation to determine what had actually happened on the fateful day,” the statement said.
The government hoped that everyone would wait for the outcome of the investigation carried out by the special panel and would not make assumptions on the case until clear evidence had been obtained, the statement said.
The investigation panel headed by Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wira Abu Seman Yusop and its other seven members began its task last night by visiting the location where the boy had been hit by a bullet at Jalan 11/2G, Section 11, Shah Alam.
Other members of the panel are former Inspector-General of Police Tun Mohammed Haniff Omar; a member of the Asean Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), Datuk Seri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah; Deputy Secretary-General (Security) of the Home Ministry Datuk Ahmad Fuad Abdul Aziz; a member of the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam), Datuk Dr Michael Yeoh; a former member of Suhakam, Dr Denison Jayasooria; criminologist Kamal Affandi Hashim, and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) lecturer Prof Madya Datuk Abdul Halim Sidek.
In the incident at 2am, Aminulrasyid died of a gunshot wound when police opened fire at a car which they were pursuing for six kilometres at high speed before it skidded.
Aminulrasyid’s friend managed to escape and became the main witness in the incident. — Bernama
