KUCHING: A health and beauty product marketing company suffered close to RM40,000 in losses when thieves broke into its premises in Tapah near here yesterday. The theft was discovered around 6am when the proprietors, a local couple, received a phone call from the owner of a nearby coffee shop regarding a break in at the company’s premises located in Tapah Bazaar.

When the couple arrived to check, they were shocked to find that their office had been ‘cleaned out’ of its valuables that included RM12,000 in cash, a laptop, a DVD player, a gold necklace, as well as more than RM20,000 worth of health and beauty products.

A police report of the break-in and theft has been made and the incident is under investigation.

In an unrelated incident, a woman from Kota Samarahan was handed over to police after she was caught shoplifting at a pharmacy on Tuesday.

The theft was discovered around 3.30pm when an employee spotted the woman behaving in a suspicious manner inside the pharmacy at a shopping mall at Mile 4 1/2 Penrissen Road here.

A subsequent check of the security camera footage confirmed that the suspect had stolen a box of health food priced at RM60 and had hidden it underneath her skirt.

Aided by a security guard, the employee then nabbed the woman as she was about to leave and recovered the stolen item, which had been ‘pressed’ in between her thighs beneath her skirt.

Police later took custody of the suspect and detained her in the lockup pending further investigation.
