Two youths killed in road crash on Gawai day

KUCHING: Two youths lost their lives on the first day of Gawai when they were struck by a car moments after their motorcycle crashed in the middle of the road.

The victims were identified as John James Pusok, 19, and Silas Silvanus Lim, 20.

Both were from Kampung Sikog at Jalan Penrissen near here.

The fatal accident occurred around 2am when the motorcycle ridden by Silas first crashed near Kampung Mundai at Jalan Padawan.

The duo was believed to have been on their way  home after a late night supper at an undisclosed location.

Both John and Silas, who were not wearing helmets, were said to have landed in the opposite lane of the road and were subsequently struck by a Proton Waja travelling in that direction.

The former died on the spot from serious head injuries while the latter succumbed to his injuries around 4.30pm at Sarawak General Hospital later the same day.

District traffic police officers, who were present at the scene, later impounded the Waja pending the outcome of their investigation of the fatal collision.
