‘New party taking path of least resistance’

KUCHING: The failure of an individual to make a significant presence or to play their role as a party leader could be the key factors behind the formation of a new party in the state.

State BN secretary-general Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said the individual concerned might have their own reasons behind the formation.

“My assumption is that there are individuals who wants to become leaders, but when they fail in that aspect, they chose to take other paths to distinguish themselves (as leaders)…but that is not team spirit (in a party).

“I don’t agree with things like that because I’m worried that they will break up other ‘teams’, not only PBB (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu) but also other parties,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Yesterday, thesundaypost published a story about Julian Petrus Jout who is forming a new party called Peace Party. The party will be opened to all Malaysians residing in Sarawak, he claimed.

Julian is not a new face in local politics as he had been a PBB member since 1986 and had worked for a few PBB branches and sub-branches. He was also the PBB chief for Kampung Sagah, Bau.

He recently exited PBB in order to form Peace Party, a party which he claimed to be supporting BN and would try to work closely with the state government for “peace, stability, justice and development”.

Dr Rundi said that this trait was not good for a team, be it political or otherwise, as it served to deteriorate people’s beliefs and unity.

“If you only think about your own self interest by becoming a leader, then who will be the followers? We have guidelines and discipline in parties,” he pointed out.

Dr Rundi explained that they already had an agreement and understanding in PBB that all members must always put the party first.

When asked whether

PBB and BN had lost it relevance in championing the people’s needs which had caused the formation of other parties he replied: “No, I don’t think so. This is not true because the majority of the people are still fighting for PBB, especially the Bumiputeras,” he said.
