KUCHING: Famed American investor and market commentator Jim Rogers, co-founder of the Quantum Fund, will update Malaysians on his investment strategies including commodities, when he speaks at CIMB Private Banking’s ‘Investment Conference 2010’ on July 7 in Kuala Lumpur.
Rogers, an international investor and college professor, author of several investment books, economic commentator and creator of the Rogers International Commodities Index (RICI), is outspoken for his bullishness on Asia and will talk on “Southeast Asia in focus, 2010 and beyond” that has been adopted as the theme of the one day investment conference.
According to a press conference from Kuala Lumpur, the theme reflects Asia’s feat of being first to rebound from the global financial crisis with Malaysia being one of several countries in the region to record a steep jump in economic growth, far outstripping Europe and North America.
Rogers, who was born in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States, showed an early entrepreneurial streak having started his own business at the age of five selling peanuts and picking up empty bottles that fans left behind at baseball games.
He got his first job at Wall Street after graduating from Yale University in 1964 and a second degree from Oxford University in 1966.
His Asia-centric investments made him uproot his business and family from America to Singapore, saying, “Southeast Asia, with its natural resources and population, will be one of the growth areas of the next couple of decades. That is one reason I sold my house in New York and moved here.”
The famously bullish commodities investor has authored books such as “Hot Commodities: How Anyone Can Invest Profitably in the World’s Best Market” and “A Bull in China: Investing Profitably in the World’s Greatest market.”
The CIMB Private Banking investment conference will also feature four other financial experts, with the opening address being delivered by CIMB Group chief executive Dato’ Sri Nazir Razak.
