Batang Sadong MP Nancy Shukri said yesterday calibre and quality leaders were necessary for an organisation to move forward.

Sharing her experiences during the closing of a Calibre Young Leaders programme at a hotel here, she said a leader equipped with practical knowledge was more welcomed by the people.

“Please do not simply promise unless you really could fulfil the promise.

This is very important especially if a promise is regarding fund allocation.

“A good leader is also someone who dares to face any challenges. By facing the challenges, it would help to lay a strong foundation for us to do better in future.

“Besides, we must always adapt ourselves with the changing circumstances,” she said.

She pointed out that a leader should always be close to the grassroots and understand the needs of the people.

“A good leader should not impose too many unnecessary protocol because it would scare away those who needs to seek assistance from us,” she said.

She explained that youths being an important pillar for the nation, the government had carried out a lot of efforts to train young leaders.

She thus urged the youths to grab the opportunity provided to further improve themselves.

About 117 participants from governmental and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) throughout the state took part in the four-day programme organised by State Youth and Sports Department.

Also present was the department’s assistant director (youth unit) Mohammad Mazlan Anis.
