Signature drive in support of motion condemning Israel

BATU PAHAT: A signature campaign in support of a motion to condemn Israel over the bloody raid on the Gaza-bound flotilla will be launched soon.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the effort was decided at the Cabinet meeting after the motion tabled in the Dewan Rakyat by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Monday was unanimously approved.

“As the emergency motion was unanimously approved in the Dewan Rakyat, there is no reason for the people not to support it,” he said here yesterday.

On Saturday, Najib asked Malaysian permanent representative to the

United Nations Datuk Hamidon Ali to meet United Nations secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon to state that Malaysia was one of the countries which would bring a resolution on the matter.

Malaysia is to seek the agreement of like-minded countries to condemn the atrocities of the Zionist regime at a special session of the United Nations in September.

Hishammuddin, who is also Umno vice-president, said the signature campaign would be conducted by non-governmental organisations including Aman Malaysia.

“This effort (collecting signatures) may seem small but the ripples can become big waves and not impossible to become a tsunami,” he said. — Bernama
