MUKAH: The new committee members of Mukah Divisional Football Association (MuFA) recently proposed various fund-raising activities this year to enhance its financial capability in promoting football in Mukah.
The proposal was adopted at the first committee meeting chaired by newly-elected MuFA president Abu Seman Jahwie on Wednesday (July 14).
“One of the proposals adopted during the committee meeting was to hold a fund-raising dinner later this year to collect money to promote football in Mukah.
“MuFA would like to appeal for support from kind donors among individuals, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), business and corporate entities to help us to fill our coffers generously,” said Abu Seman, who is also Jemoreng assemblyman and a political secretary to the Chief Minister, when talking to local reporters after chairing the meeting.
He also disclosed that MuFA is currently busy organising the MuFA Football League 2010 tournament which officially kicked off last Thursday at Mukah Dalat District Council (MDDM) football field.
The tournament, which attracted 26 football teams from Mukah, Balingian, Dalat, Oya and Igan areas, offers attractive cash prizes, trophies and medals.
Abu Seman also disclosed that MuFA planned to organise more football tournaments in collaboration with its local affiliates, principally aimed at unearthing football talents among the youths to produce quality footballers to represent Mukah and eventually Sarawak and Malaysia.
The association also planned to organise courses for local football referees.
Also present at the press conference were MuFA deputy president ASP Jamil Othman and other committee members.
