Business proprietor Goh Liang Huat confessed that he was previously involved in a different industry; the financial sector.

“For over twenty years, I was involved in the business of insurance. Baking was one of my pastime interests but over the years, the passion evolved into a business,” he revealed in an interview with the Borneo Post recently.

Goh made the move to materialise his passion into a real-deal business six years ago by setting up his shop along Jalan Song, the new food hub of Kuching.

“I started with absolutely no business management background, but I am very blessed to receive so much support from everywhere, especially customers and staff.”

When asked on what drove him to chase this dream, he said, “My aim is to share joy every day, and I believe I can achieve this through baking.”

The bakery owner revealed that the quality of his baked goods paved the way to his current success based on Aloha Bakery’s large clientele base.

“I also constantly receive feedback from customers during their visits to the shop to gauge their point of view on ways to improve my pastries and cakes,” he noted, adding that the bakery thrives on adding new items to its menu on a constant basis.

Speaking on the overall industry in Kuching, Goh notes that many bakeries are coming up throughout the city but he welcomes competition in a positive manner.

“It is healthy to welcome competition from other bakeries,” he said. “I believe that we can thrive on improving ourselves, especially when it comes to variety and pricing.”
